Tillie was a daughter of Claus "Andy" Grimm and Anna Granlund Grimm, and grew up in The Dalles, Oregon. She married Charles Henry Pocan in 1923 in San Francisco. Tillie worked for many years as a saleslady at Charles Brown & Sons in San Francisco, and later at Daughtry's in Castro Valley, California. In 1946, Tillie and Charlie bought property in Pollock Pines, California, intending to retire there. Tragically, in 1948, Charlie died in an accident on their property. In 1950, Tillie married Donald Graham Pocan, Charlie's brother, and they built a home and trailer park there. Donald passed away in 1955. Tillie married Frank D. Russell in 1966 and moved to Paradise, California. Tillie had no children of her own, but she was "Aunt Tillie" to many nieces and nephews.
