Gertrude "Gertie" Irene Curry, the daughter of Allen and Maude McKee Howell, was born October 28 1899 in Adams County, Iowa and passed away February 23, 1979 at the Rosary Hospital in Corning, Iowa. She was 79 years, 3 months, and 25 days old.
She was united in marriage to Ellsworth Curry, August 30, 1916. To this union one son, Donald Ellsworth Curry was born. Ellsworth died when Donald was 5 months old.
In 1922 she was united in marriage to Cleve Curry. They farmed in Lincoln Township until Cleve's death April 18, 1961. She moved to Westgate Housing in 1973, Colonial Manor in 1978.
She enjoyed her many friends, neighbors, and relative. Having friends drop in to visit was one of her greatest pleasures. She will always be remembered as a gracious hostess. She greatly enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Ellsworth, her second husband, Cleve; one sister, Millie Rhoda; and a daughter-in-law, Wilda.
Survivors include her son Donald and his wife, Velma of Corning; three grandchildren, Terry Curry and his wife Carolyn of Corning, Mrs. Shirley Andrews of Morton, Illinois, Janice Mullen and her husband Mike of Corning; and eight great-grandchildren. Also surviving her are two sisters, Mrs. Forrest (Viola) Williams of Zion, Illinois, and Mrs. Dale (Tessie) Adams and her husband of Corning, and four brothers, Glen Howell and wife Wilma of Wishram, Washington, Arthur Howell and wife, Millie of Springdale, Oregon, Harold Howell and wife Juanita of Red Oak, Iowa, and Lester Howell and wife Margery of Portland, Oregon, many nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her and loved her.
Funeral services were held at the Larkin-Roland Funeral Home in Corning, February 25, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Elmer West officiating. Interment was in the Quincy Cemetery.
Music was furnished by Erma Fuller, organist and Marie West, vocalist. Flower bearers were Ray and Irene Miller and John and Harriet Cimock. Pall bearers were Albert Miller, Seymour Schafer, Wayne Wilson, Boyd Schafer, Donald Drennan, and Dale Kimpson.
