Ruby Irene was the fourth child of James and Catherine Anna (Fehliman) Woodward. She had an older brother (Calvin) who left Ohio in 1899 and moved to Kansas for health reasons. Then in 1900 her other brother, Oliver left Ohio and rode to Kansas on a bicycle, at distance of 858 miles one way! He returned to Ohio and then Ruby and the rest of her family left Stryker, Ohio (her hometown) around 1901 and settled near Newton, Kansas. On their way down to Kansas, Ruby, her mom and younger siblings road in the main rail car and Oliver was in the transport car guarding the family possessions and cattle they took with them. On 27 October 1906 she married her first husband, George G. Crobarger in Newton, Kansas. Together they had three children Anna Faye, Edna Mae and Harvey Calvin. George passed away on 13 August 1912 from scarlet fever. She then met her second husband, Robert Frank George and on 18 September 1915 they were married in Newton, Kansas and had seven children: Margery Alta, James (Woody) Wilson Frank, Lucena Winafred, Cuma Irene, Wilber Paul, Donald LaRue and Willa Marie. Sometime in 1938, Frank had left Kansas for California to find a place to live and later that year, Ruby, Cuma, Woody, Donald and Willa left for California in an old hearse Frank had boughten from a former boss along with a hired two men to drive and traveled across country with all of their belongings. They first lived in Glendale, CA then lived in Eagle Rock, Long Beach and Burbank. On 07 December 1949, husband, Robert Frank, passed away while he was visiting his son, Woody and family in Newton, Kansas. Ruby had his body returned by train to California for burial. She then lived with her youngest daughter, Willa, in Gardenia and then to Bellflower, after Robert died. Ruby was known for her baking and also making buttermilk biscuits. She never learned how to drive a car! She passed away in 1964 from heart failure.
