Barbara Jean Linthicum - O'Lague - Kirschner was born September 14th, 1928 to Claude and Lora Linthicum. Her family lived in the small town of Indian Prairie, Illinois and moved to the big city of St. Louis, Missouri by the year 1940. There she lived with her parents and older brother, Ed, younger sister, Reba and her little brother, Jack.
She moved to California in 1949 where she married Robert O'Lague. In 1962 they moved to Farmingdale with their two daughters, Robin and Terri, then 3 years later had another daughter, Karen. It was here in 1962 that Jehovah's Witnesses came to her door and she accepted their invitation to study the Bible. Six months later she made the decision to dedicate her life to God and was baptized on September 7th, 1963.
Barbara loved life! She enjoyed horseback-riding, skiing, traveling and being with friends. However, life was not always easy for Barbara. In 1965 she found herself all alone raising three little girls. But nothing rocked her. Jehovah proved to be her Stronghold. As a devoted mother she continued to teach her daughters to love God, the value of hard work and the importance of family. Some of her daughters fondest memories are of their annual road trips; one year to visit their Aunt & Uncle in Florida, then the next year to St. Louis to visit their other Aunts, Uncles and many cousins.
Other fond memories include the many times their home was filled with friends. As well as having the Congregation Book Study in their home. Barbara was a zealous witness for Jehovah and displayed the pioneer spirit year after year! She had the joy of seeing several Bible Students dedicate themselves to Jehovah. What made her a good teacher is that she was a good listener. And after listening, she would listen some more and then smile and share a scripture.
Barbara was thrilled to embrace her new role as a grandmother. She was first called "Nanny" by Veronica, who at age 2 couldn't say "Granny". That's how many came to know her as Nanny. Barbara loved to teach her grandchildren. Fiona always knew who she could go to for help with schoolwork and her Bible study. Her granddaughters' favorite memories were spending time in the ministry with her, talking for hours, shopping at the mall and, of course, playing card games. It was her deep love for spiritual things that led Nicole by only age 5 to love Jehovah and to grow to have the same zeal for teaching others as her Nanny had.
At 65 Barbara found love again and married Warren Kirschner on October 30th, 1993. She was glowing like a young school girl in love! They were nicknamed the "roadrunners" because they traveled between their two homes in New York and North Carolina. They spent many happy years together.
Barbara was known for her kind and generous spirit, sharing what little she had with others. And her love for people was genuine, which is evident by the many enduring friendships she has made over the years. No matter how much time had passed or distance came between them, her friends were always close to her heart. She was admired for her steadfastness and loyalty. This was her 50th year of faithful service! She will be greatly missed by all, including her heavenly father, Jehovah God, who longs to bring her back to life again in that paradise earth, where "death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore." (Revelation 21:3, 4)
