JEROME — Dell Stephen Morgan, 78, passed away early Sunday morning, July 22, 2012, of complications from a virus.
Dell was the only child of Elizabeth (Lizzie) Nalder and Alfred James Morgan, born Dec. 29, 1933. In 1953, he was drafted into the U.S. Army. On July 12, 1954, on a seven-day pass, he married LaRene Mayfield. They returned to Fort Ord, Calif., where Dell's commander sent him to school to become a field first sergeant. He trained many platoons to march, shoot rifles and crawl under machine gun fire between platoons as well as help pilots land planes safely. Upon being discharged from the Army, they returned to Layton, Utah, and he went to work at Hill Air Force Base, where he worked in the motor pool; he then went to work at Hill Air Force Fire Department, where he worked for 20 years. He later helped Layton Fire Volunteer Department and served as fire chief.
Dell and LaRene had three children, A. Jay, Stephen Lynn and KaeLene Morgan. In 1973, they bought a dairy farm and moved to Wendell, Idaho. After selling the dairy farm, Dell, LaRene and their children moved to Gooding, where Dell worked at Gooding Seed and took seed to California, Utah and Oregon. They returned to Jerome, where Dell and LaRene both went to work at Tupperware, where they worked for 15 years. Dell later went to work for the North Side Canal Co. and later worked for Northside Bus Co.
Dell is survived by his wife, LaRene of Jerome; sons, A. Jay Morgan of Twin Falls and Stephen Lynn Morgan of Jerome; daughter, KaeLene Morgan of Hansen; grandchildren, BryAnn Lemmons, Timmy Roholt, Kallee Myers and Robert Morgan; and great-grandchildren, Madisen Myers and McKenzie Myers. He was preceded in death by his parents; as well as Jose, Leonard, Ralph, Clyde, Lester and Ruby Morgan.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 28, at the Jerome Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Stake Center, with Bishop Ed King conducting. Burial will follow at the Wendell Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 p.m. until service time at the stake center. Services are under the care and direction of Demaray-Robertson Funeral Chapel in Jerome.
