Mr. Burgess was dead on arrival at Cookeville regional Medical Center on Saturday, December 30, 2000.
He was born on May 7, 1928, in Jackson County to the late Bascom and Mary Minnear Burgess. Mr. Burgess was retired owner/operator of Burgess Pest Control in Elkton for 35 years. He was a member of the Elkton Moose Lodge.
His family includes three daughters, Amanda Burgess of Nashville and Anna Burgess and Shirley Upchurch, both of Cookeville; three sons, William Edward Burgess of Baxter, Mark Allen Burgess of Newark, Dela., and Jack McGhee of Wilmington, Dela.; a brother, Ward Burgess of Baxter; and two grandchildren, Joey and Buddy Dyer.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edith M. McGhee Burgess; a daughter, Ramona Burgess; a son, Ralph Burgess; three sisters, Ollie Buchanan, Hallie Philpot and Hatha Vison; and five brothers, Baugh, Raymond, Willard, Glen and Ralph Burgess.
