John L. Sullivan was born in Ireland around 1850. He came to America and died at age 58.(The year is my guess).

His obituary describes him as "one of the best -known residents of the NorthSide", and for years a hotel keeper of the Woods Run District. He was one of the districts most active Democrat Workers." He died at his daughter's home "Mrs. .P McNamara" is Mrs Patrick McNamara + Mary Gabriella Sullivan McNamara. They were living at 1507 Arthur Street NorthSide of Pittsburgh

John died of a stroke in the context of bronchitis and "Dissipation"

His first wife Bridgit died in October 1897. His second wife Mary Grosse ( or is it Finnell?) is buried in St Mary's Lyceum cemetery in Pittsburgh.
His daughter Mary Gabriella Sullivan McNamara is my great-great grandmother. He also had a son Joseph b 1876, Catherine 1879-1889 who died when she was 10 years old, Anna Sullivan Dale Miller b 1881,
He also had a son named John Sullivan Jr who drowned at the age of 8 on June 23rd, 1883 and is buried at St Mary's with him.
He had a daughter Maurgarite with his second wife, Mary. She died at age 31 of a tooth abscess. Infant William Joyce was stillborn in 1875.
John ran a Nickelodeon in Wood's Run, and a bar. His son Joseph tried to run the bar afterward but couldn't make a go of it. He later became Postmaster of Bellevue.
Joseph had a son who became a priest:"Father Francis", Father Francis R. Sullivan who worked in New Kensington His other children were Ruth Clark O'Conor, Clair, Alice, Ester Faust and Paul. Hope this information is of help and interest to someone some day.

His grandson Richard Lawrence McNamara once told his own daughter Rosie Kelly that John "had a brother who was in the British Army in Africa and was eaten by cannibals. Of course he must have been shot with a bow and arrow first."

Per cemetery records, there are 9 individuals buried here, all the 6 people on the stone, plus infants William, James McNamara 1909 age 2 days , and a 3 year old died 1872.
