Obituary - Mrs. Marie B. Baack, aged 80, a resident of Holbrook for the past 40 years died Friday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Emma Vollbracht on Lincoln Avenue, Holbrook.
Mrs. Baack, widow of Claus Baack, was a native of Germany. Besides Mrs. Vollbracht, she leaves three other daughters; Mrs. Marie Heine of Holbrook, Mrs. Adelaide Hahn of Medford, and Mrs. Meta Hyatt of Westbury, and three sons; Richard Baack of Holbrook, George Baack of Patchogue, and John Baack of Milwaukee, WI, a brother, Jacob Brandt, of Bremen, Germany also 19 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
When Mr. and Mrs. Baack first came to Holbrook they opened Hotel Holbrook, (on March 17, 1900, which became Baack's Hotel) which is now Mazanek's Sunrise Farm hotel. Mrs. Baack was the organizer and first president of the Ladies' Aid Society of St. John's Lutheran Church and a member of the Republican Club.
The funeral service was held Sunday afternoon in Raynor's Memorial chapel, Sayville, the Rev. Louis H. Martin, pastor of the Sayville Lutheran Church, officiating. Interment was made Monday morning in Lutheran Cemetery, Middle Village, Queens.
