In the late 1950s he began to seek ministry and became involved with the North Carolina Yearly Meeting of Friends which was the North Carolina sect of the Quakers. He was with them for 44 years from 1955 to 1999. He served at several Churches during his lengthy ministry: Corinth Friends Meeting, Oakland Friends Meeting, Piney Woods Friends Meeting, Spring Garden Friends Meeting (only to supply until a Pastor was found), Hopewell Friends Meeting and Deep Creek Friends Meeting. He left a few years later. In 1995, he suffered a massive heart attack and almost lost his life. The doctors said that if he had gotten there fifteen minutes later, he would've died. Only a few months later after beginning to have trouble walking and keeping his balance, he went to the doctor and they began to treat him for strokes. On Sunday July 25th 1999 at 1:40pm, with almost all his family by his side, he went home to be with the Lord.
