William Brashears, 34, of the Combs community in Madison County, died Nov. 3, at Washington Regional Medical Center of a shotgun wound in the chest.

Sheriff Ralph Baker said Brashears was shot by his wife, Mrs. Evelyn Sue Brashears, shortly before midnight at the couple's home.

Brashears was taken to Washington Regional Medical Center by his brother, Tommy Brashears, who was at the home at the time of the shooting, according to Baker.

Baker said the shooting followed a family argument and Brashears was shot with a 12 gauge shotgun at close range. The couple's children were also at home when the shooting took place.

Baker said Brashears died in surgery at the hospital.

The Madison County sheriff's office is still investigating the incident. Baker said Mrs. Brashears has not been taken into custody and that all evidence in the case will be turned over to the prosecuting attorney.

Brashears was born November 23, 1938 at St. Paul, the son of Audley and Celia Thornsberry Brashears, and was a Mason.

Survivors include his widow, of the home; two sons, Randy Lee and Tony Ray of the home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Audley Brashears of St. Paul; one brother, Tommy of St. Paul; one sister, Mrs. Doris Miller of St. Paul; two half-sisters, Mrs. Jimmy Lee Ward and Mrs. Christine Agostenella, both of Bakersfield, California.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 6, at 2:00 p.m. at the St. Paul Bible Church with Reverend Sam Judd officiating. Burial was in the Brashears Cemetery under the direction of the Brashears Funeral Home.
