John Graham was born 1792 in North Carolina, and died February 3, 1863 in Courtland, Lawrence County, Alabama. He married Lydia Perry Rushing April 7, 1814 in Rutherford County(later Cannon Co) Tennessee, daughter of Matthew Rushing and Polly Unknown. She was born May 27, 1797 in Anson County, North Carolina, and died June 5, 1883 in Courtland, Lawrence County, Alabama.

John served in the War of 1812 in Tennessee and Alabama fighting the Indians with the 2nd Regiment of Volunteer Mounted Riflemen in Tennessee under George Brannon and others.

He obtained Bounty Land Warrants for land in Alabama under this service, and they came to Alabama about 1816.
