Margaret K. (Koon) Coberly, 93, passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2013. She was born June 5, 1920 in Green Bank, Pocahontas County, WV, the daughter of Cline Morgan Koon and Tegwen Barber Koon. At the time of her passing she was living at Mt. Pleasant Retirement Village in Monroe, OH.
Margaret was married for 70 years to the late Brig. Gen. Theodore S. Coberly (USAF, Ret.). She is survived by two sons, Lt. Col. Camden A. (Judy) Coberly II of Ft. Worth, TX; COL Theodore R. (Jan) Coberly of Spotsylvania, VA and a daughter Kathleen C. (Scott) Stewart of Batavia, OH; five grandchildren; Colter B. (Deanna) Coberly of Waxhaw, NC; Carolyn H. Coberly, of Dubai, UAE; Theodore H. (Beth) Coberly of Zebulon, NC; Kathleen S. (Kevin) McPeek of Milford, OH and Margaret Len (Jim) Martin of West Chester, OH and eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter Margaret Anne Coberly.
She was a homemaker and devoted her life to supporting her family and her husband through his military and civilian careers and retirement that included long periods of absence and "single-parenting" during and after World War II and during the Korean War. She moved the home over 15 times across the U.S. and internationally during his military career. Margaret was also an accomplished artist and exhibited and sold oil paintings. Throughout her life she was told how much she resembled the actress Katherine Hepburn including by an excited "fan" who mistook her for the actress at the Los Angeles Airport.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at the Mary Kittredge Chapel, Mt. Pleasant Retirement Village, 225 Britton Lane, Monroe, OH. Margaret will be buried with her husband at Arlington National Cemetery.
