Robert M. Briggs, age 92, passed away peacefully in his home on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 comforted by the love of his family.

Robert is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Una Briggs (nee Sylvia); his two loving daughters, Sylvia Briggs-Donley, Sandy (Edward) Sanderson; his grandchildren, Terilynn Donley, Lynnae (Tim) Fash and Kenny Bush; three great-grandchildren, Alex Rupert, Aubree Tovar and Austin Fash; siblings, Betty (the late Ben) Spisak, Eleanor (the late Frank) Wenkus, Marge (Dan) Lamping, Merle (Eleanor) Briggs, Arthur (Barbara) Briggs and Gerry (Lester) Williams. Numerous nieces, nephews and step-grandchildren also survive.

Preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Jessie (nee Pennington) Briggs; one brother, Bill Briggs; two sisters, Lola May Rolando and Geneva Shaw.

Robert served in the Civilian Conservation Core and then enlisted in the United States Coast Guard. He retired from Commonwealth Edison station #9 after over 30 years of service. Robert was a member of the National Rifle Association and an avid gun enthusiast. Robert was also a member of the American Legion post #1080. He was dearly loved and will be truly missed.

In lieu of flowers donations in Robert's name to Joliet Area Community Hospice, 250 Water Stone Circle, Joliet, IL 60431 would be appreciated.

The family invites relatives and friends to gather at Tezak Funeral Home on Monday, December 16, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. for service to take place in the Funeral Home Chapel at 12:30 p.m. Fr. Thomas Lamping officiating. Inurnment to follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
