Richard "Allen" Weyers, 68, of Newark, Vt., died Sunday, Nov. 14, 2004. Death followed a long illness.
Born in North Adams, Mass., on March 28, 1936, he was a son of Richard F. Weyers and Dorothy (Field) Weyers Jones. He was raised in Williamstown, Mass., where he was a star athlete in football, basketball and baseball at Williamstown High School.
He joined the U.S. Marines in 1953 and in 1969 he joined the Seabees and volunteered to go to Vietnam, where he ran heavy equipment. He received many medals.
Mr. Weyers was employed as a heavy equipment operator and worked for many different construction companies throughout New England.
He leaves his former wife and friend, Jane Gardner of Pownal; three daughters, Lynn Penna and Laurie Russell, both of Pittsfield, and Lee Torres of Belchertown; two sons, Thomas Weyers and Brian Weyers, both of Bennington; a sister, Marge Williams of Hancock, Mass.; a brother, John Weyers of Williamstown, Mass.; eight grandchildren, and four nieces.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Burial for Richard Weyers was held in Newark, Vt.
A memorial service will be held at Veterans Circle in Eastlawn Cemetery, Williamstown, Mass. at a later date.
