J.G. SPURRIER OF STILLWATER DEAD (Friday)
Prominent 93-Year-Old Man Was Oldest in City.
Stillwater, March 6 – Funeral services for J.G. Spurrier, Stillwater's oldest citizen, who died here Thursday morning at the age of 93, will be held Friday afternoon with burial in a local cemetery.
Spurrier was born in 1836 in Illinois, later moving to Iowa, where he lived for 51 years. In 1859 he went to Kansas and homesteaded a farm. With opening of the Civil war he served with Company E, Third Iowa Infantry.
He came to Stillwater in 1901 and made his home here until his death.
The Spurrier family is known in connection with the Spurrier Lumber Co., among other interests. O.K. Spurrier, a grandson, is secretary-treasurer of the organization in Oklahoma City.
Spurrier is survived by two sons, 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
