Obituary:
Longtime Stillwater resident Freda Inez Simpson, 86, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Strode Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Stanley Warfield will officiate. Interment will be in Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Strode Funeral Home.
Simpson was born May 7, 1915, in Marble City to Frederick and Annie (Lewis) Thurman. She spent her childhood and school years in Locust Grove until graduating at age 15 from Tulsa Edison High School.
She then attended and graduated from Oklahoma A&M College, now OSU, in 1937 with a degree in business.
She married Virgil A. Simpson Aug. 16, 1937, in Stillwater, where he owned and operated Simpson Pontiac Co. until his retirement in 1981. She was a homemaker during her children's school years, after which she assumed the dealership's bookkeeping in 1972, until her husband's retirement.
Simpson was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; a sister, May Davidson of El Paso, Texas; and a brother, Astor Thurman of Pittsburgh, Pa.
She is survived by three sons, Larry Simpson and his wife Rhonda of San Carlos, Calif., Chris Simpson and his wife Sandra of Ellicott City, Md., and Jerry Simpson of Edmond; one daughter, Luann Cole and her husband Larry of McAlester; four grandchildren, Heather Simpson of Washington, D.C., Tanya Simpson of San Francisco, Calif., Lindsey Simpson of Los Angeles, Calif., and Karen Simpson of Ellicott City, Md.; a sister, Ona Owen of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and a sister-in-law, Eulah Bruce Krinke and her husband Joe of Stillwater.
Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Krinke, Ralph Dreeson, John Bateson and Ed Steincamp.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 400 W. Seventh, Stillwater, Okla., 74074.
