Melvin Vale Hollingsworth, 63, of Sigourney died Sunday, Sept. 25, 1988 at Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney.

He was born March 16, 1925, near Ollie to Adna and Edna Patterson Hollingsworth.

A 1942 graduate of Sigourney High School, he had a dealership with International Harvester for 24 years until 1982. He worked for Des Moines Iron Works for two years until ill health forced his retirement. A former Sigourney City Council member, he was also a member of Sigourney United Methodist Church and the Sigourney Golf Club.

He married Belva Wilkening June 26, 1949, in Sigourney.

He is survived by his wife; a son Melvin V. Jr.,; three daughters, Joietta Lynn Staves, Althea Ann Holcomb and Shirley Lorraine Diaz; four grandchildren; two brothers, Roy and Larry "Joe"; six sisters, Virginia Bottorff, Lucille Bottorff, Rosanna "Lee" Hamilton, Maxine Chatwin, Beverly Conger and Lorraine Sweet.

Funeral services, were held Sept. 28 at the Sigourney United Methodist Church with Rev. Danny Lemons officiating. Burial at Pennington cemetery.
