Grace Buchanan, born 27 April 1911 at Union, New Jersey, the youngest of nine children to Alfred Griffith Buchanan and Alice Celia More Buchanan, was a direct descendant of John and Betty More's Robert line. Her father, a laborer, died when she was one-year old and her mother, a washer woman, died when she was two-years old. Grace was raised by Sarah Upton at Jersey City, New Jersey as early as 1915. Grace married Frederick John Beyer on 28 February 1935 at Manhattan, New York and they made their home first at New York City. They relocated to Tariffville, Connecticut in 1939 and to Simsbury, Connecticut in 1940 where she managed the Travellers Rest and her husband was a restaurant waiter. They relocated permanently to Plainview, Connecticut in 1947 where Grace managed a rooming house and her husband was a steel mill electrical engineer. Grace died at Middlesex Hospital at Middletown, Connecticut on 3 August 2003. She was buried with her husband at West Cemetery at Plainview. Grace and Frederick were the parents of three children, two sons and one daughter. Much more about Grace below.

Grace B. (Buchanan) Beyer, formerly of Metacomet Road, Plainville passed on Sunday, (August 3, 2003) at the Middlesex Hospital in Middletown. She was preceded by her late husband, Frederick (Fred) Beyer. Born on April 27, 1911 in Uniontown, NJ, she was the youngest of nine children. Her mother died when Grace was very young and she was raised by the Upton family. Grace loved to sing and she had a beautiful soprano voice. During the 1930's in New York City, she sang on the radio and with the dance bands of Ozzie Nelson and Rudy Vallee. She met and married Fred J. Beyer in 1935. In 1939 they moved to Tariffville, shortly afterwards moving to Simsbury, where she ran the restaurant "The Travelers Rest" in Hotchkins Station. During World War II, due to lack of available supplies, the restaurant was forced to close. In 1947 the family moved to Plainville where Grace ran a rooming house at 51 East Main St. She later worked at Trumbull Electric, then as a cook at the Plainville Convalescent Home. The family moved to Trumbull Ave, then built a home on Metacomet Rd. Grace was very active in the Plainville Senior Citizen Center and the Plainville Choral Society and sung in their productions. She was also active in the Toastmasters, winning several awards, and the Pythian Sisters. She was a member of Church of our Saviour Episcopal Church in Plainville and sung in the choir for many years. Grace is survived by two sons and a daughter, [...] and [...] of Glendale, AZ, [...] and [...] of Austin, TX and [...] and [...] of Middletown. She leaves five grandchildren, [...] of Glendale, AZ, [...] of Cedar Park, TX, [...] of Pflugerville, TX, [...] and [...] of Middletown, as well as three great grandchildren, [...], [...] and [...] of Texas. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 7, at 10 a.m. at Church of Our Saviour, 115 W. Main St., Plainville, with burial to follow at the West Cemetery, N. Washington St., Plainville. Bailey Funeral Home, Plainville is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Plainville Senior Citizens Center, 200 East Street, Plainville, CT 06062, or to Middlesex Hospital Hospice, 28 Crescent St., Middletown, CT 06457.
