JAMES SHINALL, SR.
James Howard "Jim" Shinall, Sr.,
58, of the Kents Ridge Road section
of Richlands died Oct. 20 in a
Richlands hospital following a
lengthy illness.
He was born at Richlands and was
a son of the late Thomas Edward
and Cora Lee Lamie Shinall.
He had made his home in the Rich-
lands area for his entire life and
was a 1950 graduate of Richlands
High School. He was a U. S. Army
veteran, Staff Sergeant on the
European Theatre during the Korean
Conflict. He was employed for
Shinall Coal Co., a fireman on the
Norfolk and Western Railroad, an
agent for People's Life Insurance
Co., and for the last 13 years,
was employed for Buskill Sales
before retiring in December of
1988.
He was a member of the Richlands
Lodge No. 318 A.F. & A.M. and
held membership as a 32 degree
Mason in the Kazim Temple and
Scottish Rite Bodies of Roanoke.
He was a member of the V.F.W.
Casey-Shortt Post No. 9640 of
Richlands. He was of the
Methodist faith.
In addition to his parents,
he was preceded in death by a
brother, Earl E. Shinall.
Survivors: wife, Helen Irene
Sargent Shinall; daughters,
Mrs. Winston (Jamie) Fouch and
Mrs. Dewey (Karen) Knuckles,
both of Kents Ridge Road, Cedar
Bluff, Kimberly Ann Shinall and
Ann Brooks, both of Virginia
Beach, Christina Kaye Shinall
of the home; sons, Charles
Thomas (Chuck) Shinall of the
home, James Howard Shinall, Jr.;
brothers, Bobby E. Shinall and
Buddy G. Shinall, both of Rich-
lands, Don Shinall of Cedar
Bluff; and nine grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted
Oct. 22 at 2 p.m. in the Hurst-
Scott Funeral Chapel in Rich-
lands with the Rev. Lee McGlothlin
and Rev. Stafford Compton
officiating.
Interment followed in the Hankins
Cemetery at Richlands.
Members of the V>F>W> Casey-
Shortt Post No. 9640 conducted
military graveside rites.
The Richlands Lodge No. 318
A.F. & .M. conducted a Masonic
service at 7 p.m Oct. 21 at the
funeral home.
