PLYMOUTH - Nellie I. Van Gilder, 91, of Plymouth, Indiana, passed away Monday, November 25, 2013, at 12:00 p.m., at Pilgrim Manor Nursing Home in Plymouth.
Nellie was born on December 4, 1921, in Bremen, Indiana, to Otis and Edna (Hoffman) Andrews. Nellie married Francis O. Van Gilder on December 10, 1948, in Plymouth. Francis passed away on December 20, 1994.
Nellie retired from Wagner Wire. She then worked at Harvey Mart and Dorothy's Hallmark. She was a member of the First United Church of Christ. Nellie was called "Mom" by many of her "adopted children" from Plymouth High School's Class of 1967.
Nellie is survived by her three daughters, Linda and John Sweany, Betty and Greg Scheetz, and Judy and Tom Weston, all of Plymouth; her son-in-law, Clarence Franklin of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; her brother, George Andrews of Bremen; her sisters, Ethel Renes of South Bend, Indiana, Delores (Harry) Belcher of Osceola, Indiana, and Erma (Barney) Hochstetler of Nappanee, Indiana.
Nellie was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Van Gilder; their three daughters, Jane Ann, Sharon Kay and Alice Louise Franklin; her brothers, Donald, Edgar, DeVere and William; and her sisters, Estee and Dorothy.
