Stanley "Stan" K. Lapacz, 70, of Mountain, WI, died peacefully at home after a courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008.

The youngest of 16 children, Stan was born in the Town of Chase to the late Joseph and Rose ( Krawczyk ) Lapacz on Nov. 10, 1937. After graduating from high school, he married Mary Jane "Janie" Horkman on Sept. 13, 1958. In 1954 he joined the National Guard. In 1961, he was inducted into the U.S. Army during the Berlin Crisis, serving his country honorably. After the service, he returned to Green Bay, where he continued to work as a machine operator for Georgia-Pacific. He retired in 1996, after 41 years of service.

Stan and his family spent many summers camping at Boot Lake. In 1970, they purchased a lot on Paya Lake. It is here he built their retirement home, making it their permanent residence in 1998. Stan enjoyed taking his family and friends for rides on the pontoon boat. He also enjoyed golfing at McCauslin Brook and ice fishing on all the lakes in the Lakewood area.

Stan was a dedicated member of the American Legion Sylvan Post 44, Wabeno, serving in the recent past as adjutant. He took great pride in what the Legion stood for.

However, he will best be remembered for his love for his family and his commitment to attending the grandchildren's school and recreational activities.
He will also be remembered for his positive/non-complaining spirit during his 2-1/2 year battle with cancer. He will be sadly missed by his wife of almost 50 years and all of his family.

He is survived by his wife "Janie"; two sons, Lonnie (Lila) Lapacz, Green Bay; and Todd (Joy) Lapacz, Marinette; five grandchildren: Amy, Adam, Tamara, Heather and Joshua Lapacz; two brothers, Edward (Genevieve) Lapacz, Green Bay and Alex (Nida) Lapacz, Florida; five sisters: Ceil Stoller, Lillian Kush, Frances (Connie) Lotto, all of Green Bay; Helen Nitka, Sheboygan Falls and Clara Mleziva, Denmark; brother-in-law, Bill Prybylski, Green Valley; special brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ralph and Carol Schoch, Mountain; and numerous wonderful nieces and nephews.
Stan was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, Martin, Theodore (Dorothy), Louis (Ruth), John (Anna), Raymond, Joseph, Anton (Marilyn) Lapacz, one sister, Marie Prybylski; four brothers-in-law: Vernon Stoller, Frank Kush, Edmund Nitka and Bernard Mleziva.
