Burial was in Welcome Home Cemetery under direction of Riser and Son Funeral Home of Columbia.
Mr. Monroe died Monday night at Caldwell Hospital after a brief illness.
He was a member of Lodge No. 382, F & AM, at Hodge.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Lillian C. Monroe; one son, John Robert Monroe, Jr.; his mother, Mrs. Nettie Monroe, all of Grayson; two brothers, Bishop Monroe of Ruston and Hardy Monroe of Grayson; four sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Guercio of White Castle, Mrs. Annie Mae Joyner and Mrs. Margaret McGhee, both of Grayson and Mrs. Mable Hagens of Korea.
Pallbearers were Aubrey Braddock, Gov. John J. McKeithen, Odis Darden Sr., Leroy Mixon, Jarvis Tarver and Jim Malcomb.
