Ca 1763-70's James was living near Abington, VA. He served in the Am. Rev. War under Gen. George Rogers Clark as a private. Was assistant quarter master's ensign, same regiment, under brother, Captain Joseph Kincaid, who was killed in the Battle of Blue Licks, Ky (8/19/1782). Petitioned Virginia for Rev. War veteran's pension and pension granted. DAR has listed as a Lt. serving with Virginia forces (under Gen. Scott). Pensioned himself, however no pension to wife or children.

A surveyor, farmer, hemp grower, land speculator, James was an intense Christian, a Presbyterian. About 1779 he moved to Virginia's Kentucky territory with father.

On Feb 4, 1784, in Harrod's Fort, Lincoln Co., Kentucky, James married Sarah Wilson (ca 1766-69 Albermarle Co., Va. - ca 1840, Platte Co., Mo.), the daughter of Henry Wilson (ca 1730-40 in Scotland - 1812) who moved to Kentucky from Fayette Co., Virginia and whose exploits were published in the Danville Advocate.

Some say he surveyed a road through Cumberland Gap and served as a captain in the local militia while others claim that was a different James Kincaid.

James and Sarah had the following children, all born in Kentucky:
1.Margaret "Peggy" Kincaid b: 1785 I
n Harrodsburg, Mercer Co., Ky
2.Mary Kincaid b: 1786
3.Sarah Kincaid b: ABT 1788

7.Harvey Kincaid b: 1799 (poss in Ky)
8.William Moore Kincaid (II) b: 1800 in Kentucky (poss 28 Feb 1802)

About 1829 they moved to Missouri along with at least one child, William. In 1830 they were living in Johnson County and by 1835 were in Platte County at Camden Point. James served as a judge in Missouri and also as a schoolmaster.
He died on July 8, 1841 at Camden Pt., Platte Co., Missouri and is buried there.
