Frances Porter Lawson age 90, of Powell, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 16, 2013, following a long illness. She was preceded in death by her parents William S. and Avola Porter; brothers, Claude and John Porter; sisters, Vera Athlene (Happy) Porter, Omega P. Alley, and Fannie Mae Thomason all of Texas. Frances was born in Fannin County, Bonham, Texas. She graduated from S.B. Allen Memorial Hospital as a registered nurse, in Bonham, Texas in 1939. She worked in Ft. Worth Hospital for children, before coming to Knoxville. She worked at Old General Hospital for four years. She later moved into industrial nursing at Standard Knitting Mills where she retired after thirty-seven years. She was an active member of Beaver Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Powell, TN, for sixty-two years. She was a member of Lamp Lighters, Sunday School Class and the Triple "L" Club.
