Russel was born on April 29, 1922 in Kingsville, Missouri, the son of Edward Fay Hobbs, Sr. and Ruth (Talley) Hobbs. He graduated from the Kingsville High School. He served as a medic with the United States Army in Alaska from March of 1946 to May of 1947. Russel married Dorothy M. (Clark)on June 27, 1948 in St. Joseph, Missouri. The couple made their home in St. Joseph. Several years later, Dorothy became afflicted with M.S. Over the years, Russel was an extremely dedicated caregiver to her until she preceded him in death, leaving him to raise their son, Carl by himself. While residing in St. Joseph, Russel was employed with Western Weighing & Inspection Bureau, retiring from there in 1983. In 1992, he returned to Kingsville to farm with his son, Carl. He loved trains and Farmall Tractors.
Survivors include his son, Carl Hobbs and his wife, Laura and also a grandson, Jacob Russel Edward Hobbs, all of Kingsville; a sister, Thelma Wesner of Ohio and a brother, Virgil Hobbs of Oak Grove, MO. He is also survived by a special great nephew, Dakota Hobbs and numerous other nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Russel was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward Fay Hobbs, Jr. and Lawerence Henry Hobbs.
