The funeral of the late Mrs. Van Nuys, who departed this life on Thursday, at her home east of the village, was held in the church on Sunday at one o'clock, the Rev. Wright of Coldwater officiating, and the remains were laid to rest beside her daughter in the Bronson Cemetery. Mrs. Van Nuys was a beautiful character of woman; a loving mother and kind neighbor. She will be sadly missed by her aged husband and large family of children. They have the sympathy of all. Her obituary will appear later.

Coldwater Daily Reporter - Jan. 29, 1919.

Mrs. Van Nuys was an active energetic worker, skilled in the art of weaving handsome rugs and carpets. Having a fondness for needlecraft work, she constructed beautiful laces and fancy articles.
She was a great lover of flowers, good books; her home and family, not excluding warm friends and neighbors.
Her religious views and sentiments savored of the good old Methodist kind. She was interested, however, in the Christian work of the little home church, though unable to attend services often on account of failing health.
On Feb. 22, 1913, Mr. and Mrs. Van Nuys enjoyed the felicity of a Golden Wedding celebration with their children and grandchildren at their Batavia home.
During her tedious illness, her loving dutiful children were with her much of the time, especially the past year, when her increasing infirmities precluded the possibility of a recovery, and all but two daughters, Mrs. Lucy Shaw of Williamsburg, Traverse County, Mich., and Mrs. Eva Vail of Bronson, were with her on Wednesday morning, Jan. 23, when she was summoned to the "Land of Rest" at the age of 71 years, 11 months and one day.
She is survived by her bereaved husband, the following children: Lucy Shaw of Williamsburg, Carrie Lavely of St. Joseph, Mich., who has spent the winter with her parents; Eva Vail of Bronson; Charles Van Nuys of Batavia; twin daughters, Mesdames Mertie Bates of Batavia, and Gertie Burch of Coldwater; Mrs. Pearl Harkness, of Coldwater; twelve grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and one elderly brother, Martin Bodine, who resides near St. Paul, Minn.
Many far and near friends express esteem for the good wife, mother and kind neighbor who has gone home, and loving sympathy for her dearly loved family, whom she would gladly have taken with her were it possible.
The funeral was held in the Batavia Baptist church on Sunday. The flowers were many and very beautiful, the tributes of many relatives and friends who attended the services which were conducted by Rev. Wright of the Coldwater M. E. church.
The pall bearers were her son, Chas. Van Nuys, and her five son-in-laws, P.C. Holcomb, Wm. Vail, Clark Burch, B.S. Harkness and C.M. Bates. The remains were conveyed to the Bronson Cemetery for interment in the Van Nuys family lot.
