Died at Home in Batavia This Morning After Short Illness
H.S. Van Nuys died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Clint Bates, at Batavia Station, at 10 a.m. today. Mr. Van Nuys had been enjoying good health for a man of his age until a short time ago. He had been up and around the house, but this morning he was unable to leave his bed. Heart trouble was the cause of death. He was 87 years old.
Mr. Van Nuys was born in New York state and came to Michigan several years ago. For many years he lived on a farm situated on the Chicago Road, in Bethel Township. A few years ago he moved to Batavia Township.
Mr. Van Nuys wife died about four years ago. He leaves eight children, who are, Charles Van Nuys, and Mrs. Bates, of Batavia; Mrs. Bernice Harkness, of Coldwater; Mrs. Lucy Shaw, of Williamsburg, Mich.; Mrs. Preston Holcomb, of Bronson; Mrs. Clark Burch, of Coldwater Township; Mrs. Eva Vail, of Bronson; and Mrs. Carrie Lavely, of Watervliet, Mich. There are several brothers and sisters who are Mrs. Ellen Stout, of Ovid Township; Jacob Van Nuys, of Coldwater; Wheeler Van Nuys, of Lansing; James Van Nuys, of Freemont, Ind.; Covert Van Nuys of Sturgis; Elroy Van Nuys, of Batavia, and Mrs. Addie Tortellet, of Sand Lake, Michigan. There are several grandchildren.
