Mrs. Ford had worked at Bear Brand Hosiery and as a hairdresser before becoming a homemaker. She was born Aug. 19, 1914, in Kankakee, the daughter of Charles A. and Cora Chester Hertz. Her husband, Russell J. Ford, whom she married Aug. 25, 1940, at the Presbyterian Church in Kankakee, died Jan. 17, 1997. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Momence, where over the years she worked with the youth group, was a Sunday school teacher and played the piano. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, gardening, fishing, driving the tractor and milking the cows.
Surviving are five daughters and three sons-in-law, Diane H. and Roy J. Jungels of Rensselaer, Ind., Rosalind L. Krohn of Momence, Mary A. Ford of Schaumburg, Cora B. and Douglas L. Wells, Kathleen C. and Robert Nickless, all of Chesterton, Ind.; 21 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Mildred Hertz and Mardelle Hertz, both of Kankakee; and many nieces and nephews.
Deceased are one great-grandson, Forrest Jungels; one son-in-law, James W.F. Krohn Sr.; two brothers, Chester and Charles Burton; and four sisters, infant Bernice Hertz, Bessie Hayslip, Helen Werner and Thelma Turner.
