BENJAMIN. P. BLANCHARD
By the passing away of Benjamin P. Blanchard, on Monday morning, May 19th, this village has met with a serious loss—a rare man having gone, to his reward. His unfailing courtesy and goodness of heart imbued every one with whom he came in contact.

A home loving man, his wide flung door, and cordial grasp of the hand welcomed all who came to that home with a wonderful hospitality, and his life was patterned by the motto, "Be kindly affectionate one to another." Sincere sympathy from the entire community is extended to his bereaved family.

Benjamin Paine Blanchard was born in Truro, Mass., May 2, 1849, the son of George W. and Betsy Blanchard, and he retained a lively interest in his native town all his life.

The father was a sea-faring man, but an uncle near by kept the village grocery, and in this store, Mr. Blanchard, a young man was want to assist.

He left his boyhood home at the age of sixteen, and was located for a time in Everett, and the Newtons, later establishing himself in a grocery store in Watertown, where he was for some years, during which time he was married to Miss Dora Carlisle of Newtonville.

Not long after he disposed of his store and removed to Kansas, where he entered into the wholesale lumber business in partner with his brother-in-law, William Carlisle.

The lumber interests took him all over the United States and Canada, and his stories culled from far afield made him a most interesting and delightful entertainer.

Their last location in the west was in Kokomo, Ind., from whence, having given up active business, Mr. and Mrs. Blanchard removed to North Falmouth in May 1913, purchasing their home on the corner of Main street and the Wildwood avenue. Mr. and Mrs. Blanchard became two of the most energetic and enthusiastic workers for the best good of the community and church. Mr. Blanchard was senior deacon of the Congregational church at the time of his death.

Mr. Blanchard was seized with a shock after returning from the morning services, Sunday, Feb. 10th, and severe complications setting in have caused the keenest anguish, and rendered him helpless and speechless. Through all, his devoted wife has been his constant attendant, the latter part of the time with the assistance of two nurses.

Miss Mary Carlisle, a niece from New York, whose home was with Mr. and Mrs. Blanchard during her youth, and of whom Mr. Blanchard was extremely fond, also Mrs. Gertrude Fiske, a niece from Providence, have been with their aunt for some time previous to Mr. Blanchard's death.

Besides his widow and Miss Carlisle, he leaves a brother, J. Frank Blanchard, a sister, Harriet, wife of Richard Paine, a nephew, Herbert Paine, a nephew, George Blanchard, a niece, Ruth, wife of Basil Collins, all of Watertown and a niece, Mildred, wife of Alton Hartford of Medfield.

He was chaplain of Megansett Grange, No. 342, for three years, resigning his position on account of ill health, at the last election of officers.

He was also a member of the Elks and a 32d degree Mason.

Funeral services were held Thursday, at 2 o'clock p. m., from the First Congregational church, Rev. Charles W. Mock, pastor, officiating.
