According to 1881 History records of Ray County, MO. Jesse C. Turnage was working his field on leave from the civil war (MO. Militia). When "Bloody" Bill Anderson's group of guerrillas came upon him tied him up and intergated him. Once they finished they shot him in the head 3 times, then slit his throat ear to ear. Then they road to his farm house, and made his wife Esther fix them food.


Jesse C. Turnage was the son of Rev. William Turnage 1792-1875 and Martha Patsy Turnage 1795-1840.

Samuel Colley is Esther's 2 huband. He was widowed when Jesse was murdered. Samuel's 1st wife was Jesse C. Turnage's sister, Elizabeth Turnage Colley. Together Elizabeth and Samuel had 1 child. Mary Ellen Colley 1848-1935. Mary Ellen Colley married Robert McCorkendale August 19, 1866. Together they had 9 children.
