THE PASSING OF P.J. SANDKNOP
LaBelle Deeply Mourns the Death of a Public Spirited Citizen After a Week's Illness.

A pall of sadness fell over LaBelle Monday evening about 6 o'clock when it was learned that P. J. Sandknop, one of our leading business men, had passed away. He was stricken with an attack of appendicitis, an affliction that had been troubling him at times tor several years, and from this peritonitis set in and after a week's illness the end came.
P. J. Sandknop was born in Edina September 6, 1871, and at the time of his death he was aged 60 years, 7 months and 11 days. About twenty-five years ago he came to LaBelle to work in the jewelry store of J. H. Long & Son, and after a time he purchased the business and for a number of years was engaged in that business, suplementing [sic] it with the clothing and gents furnishing business later. He finally sold the jewelry business and devoted his entire time to the clothing trade until four years ago when he bought a general store in Edina which he conducted about a year, when he closed it out and moved his family back to LaBelle in order to give his clothing business here his undivided attention.
September 6, 1902 he was united in marriage to Miss May Baker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Baker. To this union came three children, Jeanette, P. J., Jr., and Una Rosemary, all of whom with the bereaved companion survive. He is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Kate Critchlow, of New Orleans, and Mrs. Thomas O'Donnell, of Edina. Also two brothers, W. F of Edina, and Ed H., of Manson, Montana.
The decedent was beyond a doubt one of LaBelle's most public spirited citizens, ever ready to aid any public enterprise suggested with both his influence and money. And this fact was recognized by all our citizens and at an evidence of the fact all business houses closed Wednesday afternoon and the business people as well as others marched to the home and paid their respects to the bereaved family.
The remains were taken to Edina Thursday morning where services were held at St. Joseph's church at 9:30 o'clock conducted by Father D. J. Donovan, after which burial took place in the Catholic cemetery. Undertaker J. T. Coder, of this place, had charge of the remains.
The floral offerings were very beautiful as well as profuse, among them being a set piece sent by the decedent's former business associates.
Aside from the relatives of the family, Mr. and Mrs. George Baker, Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Baker, Mr. and Mrs. Will Baker and Frank Madden and family, the following citizens accompanied the remains from this place: J. W. Hunolt, Judge J. E. Throckmorton, W. H. Grant, J. H. Hilbert, Cecil Golden, Alex Smith, George Redding, John Wiesman, Harry Buford, Lewis Bailey, M. M. Lewis, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Meriwether, Mr. and Mrs. William Walters, Miss Helen Haley, Mrs. L. G. Lamb and Mrs. E. L. Fisher.
