a son of Henry and Jane E. ( TEMPLETON )

His maternal grandfather John Templeton,
an early settler of Wayne county, Ohio, who was also a pioneer of Iowa, settling in Jefferson county, this state, in 1839. A residence of two decades there brought him to the year 1859, when he passed away at the age of eighty.
He had devoted his life to farming in support of his family. His wife, who in her maidenhood was Elizabeth TARR, was also eighty years of age at her death, which occurred in 1864.

They were the parents of three children:
Charlotte K., Catharine and JANE E.

By a former marriage with with Elizabeth A. Steele, Mr. John Templeton also had several children.
