Camden, Oct. 11.—Chester S. Belknap passed away after a long illness of a complication of troubles.

Mr. Belknap was well and favorably known about the town, for his business took him about a good deal. He followed the business of market gardener for many years. He was born June 14, 1852, in Mabletown, Ulster County, and was the son of Chester F. and Maria Ecker Belknap. When one year old, his parents moved from Marbletown, and afterward went to New York Mills, where he lived, for many years.

He was twice married, his first wife being Miss Nellie J. Mitchell of New Hartford. By his first marriage, two daughters were born: Mrs. George Lounsbury of Clinton, and Miss Fannie Belknap, a nurse in the Seneca Falls Hospital. After a time, he married Miss Mary Eckel of Vienna, who survives him. with one son, Earl S. Belknap, who, with his wife, lived with the parents at the farm home, just out of the village on the Dunbar road. He also leaves six sisters: Mrs. Lewis Morton, of New York Mills; Mrs. Ida Oyer of Port Byron; Mrs. Mame Wilder, Mrs. Fannie Robson, Mrs. Grace Davis, and Mrs. Mina Hastings, all of whom are located in the west.

Mr. Belknap was a member of the Methodist Church for more than fifty years. One could not talk with him many minutes without learning that he was a strong Prohibitionist, and that he cast all his influence and example for the cause of temperance. The funeral will be attended at the family home Friday and burial will be made In Forest Park Cemetery.
