Daughter of Arthur Bengry and Florence Fulcher.

Gladys married Stanley (known as Stan) Trevor Ashby on the 27th August 1932 at the Paradise Primitive Methodist Church, Stoney Stanton Road, Coventry, they honeymooned on Jersey, in the Channel Islands. Both Gladys and Stanley were well known Coventry atheletes.

Stanley, Gladys and later, their children were all members of the Coventry Godiva Harriers, an athletics club that's still going today.

Stanley was picked to run the 1500m in the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics. He was the youngest athlete at the time to represent Great Britain (he was 21). He came 16th in the race.

Gladys and Stanley lived with their family at 244, Holbrook Lane, Coventry.

She died aged about 73.
