Silas was the son of George Brock. He married Elizabeth A. Postell about 1858 in Union County, North Carolina. He served in Co H 39th Reg. NC troops CSA. He moved from Cherokee County, North Carolina with his wife and tree small children to Van Buren County, Arkansas after 1870. A short time after their arrival Silas died and is buried in an unmarked grave in Archey Valley cemetery.

He and Elizabeth were the parents of three children:
Jesse M 1859-1922 (married Delfinia Beverage)
Rachel Louise 1863-1920 (married John Pack)
Aldeca Josephine 1869-1951 (married Adam Beverage)
