She was a member and former Sunday school teacher at First Baptist Church of Burnsville. Dorothy taught high school science, biology and chemistry in Transylvania, Buncombe and Yancey Counties. She held an A.A. degree from Mars Hill College and a B.S. degree from East Carolina University in home economics and science and was a member of the NEA, NCAE and the NCRSP. Her desire to become a teacher, wife, and a mother were granted her. She felt these were her life's greatest and most rewarding achievements.
Surviving are her daughters: Susan Allen of Burnsville and Mary Ann Allen of Greensboro.
A public graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 2nd in the Gillespie-Evergreen Cemetery in Brevard.
