Mrs. Jones was born and raised in the foothills of Tusquittee, North Carolina, on November 24, 1931, a daughter of the late Luther Bright and Flora Arizona Smith Bright. As the oldest of seven children, Bertha began helping her parents care for her brother's and sister at the age of 10. Once she learned to make biscuits that became her daily morning duty. Growing up during the depression, she learned to be thrifty, raise a garden and canning. All of which she continued throughout her life and was passionate about sharing those stories and passing on her wisdom from experience. She loved gathering together as a family especially when the grandchildren came to visit. She would say, "From the top of your head to the bottom of your feet, I love every inch of ya!" With a heart for hospitality she did everything to make others feel comforted. Whether making a plenty of your favorite food when you come to visit or lending a helping hand to her neighbors and community when there was a need. Bertha was a woman you could count on. She loved to cook for family & friends, but there was no need in asking for the recipe because all of it was cooked with a dash of this, a little bit of that and lots of love. Bertha was a devoted wife and mother, who tended her home and did house cleaning for several doctors and others in the community. Armed with a deep faith in the Lord and a well worn bible, she lived life with a cheerful smile on her face.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Reid Gene Jones.
