Killed when her Jeep went out of control on North Bank Road just off Hwy 42. While crossing a bridge the truck slid along the guard rail and then went over. She was thrown out and the Jeep landed on her. Several people pulled her free and she walked to an ambulance. Being she was 8-9 months pregnant when the doctors heard a heart beat in her stomach area they thought the baby survived. In reality it was Sylvia's dislocated heart they heard. The baby was dead and Sylvia died within hours.

Newspaper article, The World, 27 November 1952:
Expectant Mother Killed in Crash
Mrs. George Whiting, young mother of five, died late Thursday afternoon in Keiser hospital, North Bend, from injuries suffered shortly after noon Thursday when the jeep she was driving climbed the railing of the North Bank road trestle and fell upside down to the ground below.
Mrs. Whiting was pinned in the wreckage of the vehicle. The Whiting family lives in Greenacres.
Mrs. Whiting's husband was following her in an automobile. He and a Coos county road department truck driver named Northrup lifted Mrs. Whiting from the wreckage.
Whiting told police that the jeep skidded in loose gravel as it rounded the turn from the old section of Highway 101 near the Krome plant, then went out of control.
The bridge railing gave part way as it was struck by the vehicle.
The jeep had a metal top, but that was nearly flattened by the weight of the vehicle. The interior of the car was a shambles. Dr. Leland B. Gould went from Coquille to the accident scene to give first aid, and the Schroder ambulance rushed Mrs. Whiting to Keiser.
Whiting told officers his wife was due to have another child in three weeks. Doctors were unable to save the life of the unborn child, also, as it was injured in the crash.
