Mr. Hargett was born September 29, 1927 in Mecklenburg County to D.A. and Lenora Hargett.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joyce Godfrey Hargett; brother, Ernest and sisters, Lib, Louise, Helen, Cora and Irene.
Howard attended Oakhurst High School and then enlisted in the Merchant Marines serving in WWII. He worked for C.D. Spangler, Pargo, and later, E.J. Smith and Sons for many years as a Service Manager. He served 25 years as a volunteer fireman including several years as Chief of Hickory Grove V.F.D. He loved to go fishing and working his garden. He loved and dedicated his life to his family.
He is survived by sons, Darrell, Randy and Greg Hargett; daughters, Jackie Bolton (Michael) and Renee Hargett; sisters, Margaret Canavan and Betty Fuller; brother, Van Hargett (Joyce); 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 1PM on Friday, September 27, 2013 at Hope Christian Church, 11231 Lawyers Road, Mint Hill, Charlotte, NC 28227. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations to be made to Alzheimer's Association , www.alz.org.
