Phillip E. Bergh, age 87, died July 1, 1994 at the Stewartville Nursing Home in Stewartville, Minnesota. Funeral services were July 5, 1994 at the American Lutheran Church in Long Prairie with Rev. Andrew A. Hanson officiating. Interment was in Mound Grove Cemetery, Evansville.
Phillip was born June 24, 1907 in Brandon to Emil E. and Magnhild (Strom) Bergh. He graduated from Evansville High School and attended Augsburg College. He was united in marriage to Leona Erickson on June 28, 1935 at Immanuel Lutheran church in Evansville. He moved to Long Prairie in 1934 and opened a Coast-To-Coast Store with his brother-in-law Vic Ahrens. His other business operations included the Browerville Hardware, Browerville; Marshall Wells, Staples; and in Long Prairie the Ben Franklin Store and the Dairy Way. Active in many community and civic areas he helped organize and was a charter member of the Lion's Club and had served on the Chamber of Commerce Board. He served as chairman of the Long Prairie Housing and Development Authority, serving on the boards that built Prairie View Manor and Prairie View 400. He was Long Prairie mayor from 1958 to 1962. He was a charter member of the Long Prairie country club. A member of the American Lutheran church he served the Church in many areas including trustee and building committee member. He was always a promoter and backer of Long Prairie and enjoyed building, remodeling, improving and fixing.
He is survived by his wife Leona of Stewartville; children: Allen Bergh, North Oaks; Ayleen Koehn, Stewartville; and Connie Wallin, Woodbury; sisters: Miriam Ahrens, Mesa, Arizona; and LaVerle Wilken, Moundsview; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Henry, Ira and Lloyd Bergh and one sister, Lillian Ness. Pallbearers were Paul Koehn, Erik Bergh, Jon Bergh, David Lundberg, Jason Berg and Gary Peterson. Arrangements with Stephan-stein Funeral Home, Long Prairie.
