Burris Baughman, 71, Dies At Keefeton; Rites This Afternoon
Burris Baughman, 71, former Muskogee fire department electrician who retired about nine years ago after 20 years of service, died Wednesday night at his home in Keefeton, following a two-year illiness.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Agent Chapel with Rev. Forrest G. Bailey, pastor of the Boulevard Christian Church, officiating, and burial will be in the Checoiah Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Don Bright, Hardin Fletcher, Reece Hadley, R.E. Preston, Frank Rider and Roy Guy.
Born in Harrison, Ark., April 23, 1887 (should be 1877), Baughman came to Indian Territory as a child, living on a farm near Checotah until he moved to Muskogee to accept employment with the telephone company. He joined the fire department in 1920, and following his retirement in 1940, continued to live here for several years before removing to Park Hill, and later to Keefeton.
Survivors include three sons, Floyd of Bremerion, Wash., Ray of Los Angeles, and Bobbie of Muskogee; a daughter, Mrs. Justin Scism, 3324 Fon Du Lac, Muskogee; two brothers, Lightle, Albany, Calif., and Lloyd of Seminole; a sister, Mrs. Robert Acker, Spiro, and nine grandchildren.
