OBITUARY FOR GEORGE HOMER BERRY DINNEL

George Berry Dinnel was born Nov. 30, 1879 near Jamesport, Mo., the youngest child of Susan Stretch and William Dinnel. He departed this life Oct. 2, 1968 at the Logan County Hospital in Sterling, Colo., at the age of 88 years, 10 months and 2 days.
When 6 years of age, he came to Nebr. in a covered wagon with his parents. They settled on a homestead in Hayes County, north of Wauneta where he attended rural school.
In 1906 they moved to Palisade where he has resided until 2 years ago when ill health made it necessary for him to move up to the Barnes Rest Home in Wauneta.
He worked on the railroad several years, but most of his life was spent doing farm work.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Jane Lumpkin, Phoebe Troxel, Alice Fletcher, Anna Herbert and Luella Terry, and 1 brother, William Dinnel. He is survived by nieces, nephews and friends. He is remembered as a kindly man who reached out a helping hand to those in need.
Services were held at the Church of Christ in Palisade on Friday, Oct. 4, 1968 at 2 p.m. with Jim Cox officiating. The singers were Mr. and Mrs. Gaylin Anderson. The hymns were Beautiful Isle and Beyond the Sunset. The escorts were Gerold Bodeman, Donald Hunt, Otis Witt, Virgil Strayer, T. A. Silver and Kenneth Ungles. Burial was in the Palisade Cemetery with the Carpenter and Strayer Service in charge.

Gravesite Details

A marker was added to George's plot in 2015, given by his great great nephew, Robert Straub, son of Nola Troxel Straub.
