Charles William "Bill" Richardson, age 91 of Nashville, October 17, 2013. He was born in Emmetsburg, Iowa, February 17, 1922, the youngest of four children of William and Sadie Richardson.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Clyde and Howard; sister, Hazel Bauck; and his beloved wife of almost 65 years, Betty Jean Adair Richardson.
He is survived by his son, David (Rene') Richardson; daughter, Jean (Bob) Mathews; grandchildren, Tate William, Ellery, and Meredith Richardson, all of Nashville.
Bill attended high school and junior college in Emmetsburg, where he played on the basketball teams. He served in the U.S. Army from 1943-1946, part of that time in Belgium and France during WWII. He met Betty Jean at a USO dance at Fort Campbell, KY, and they were married six months later on August 5, 1944 on a 3-day pass. After the service, Bill received his B.S. degree from Business University in Bowling Green, KY (now part of Western KY University.) After graduation Bill and Betty Jean moved to Louisville, KY, where he worked for Silverfleet Trucking Co. In 1952, the family moved to Nashville, TN where he worked for Albert Malone, CPA and later Ernst & Ernst, CPAs. Bill went to work for Beaman Bottling Co. as the comptroller in 1962 and worked there until his retirement in 1994. He was involved in the Civitans for many years and had been a member of Dalewood United Methodist Church since 1953. He and Betty Jean played in a couples bridge club for several years (Bill always got the good cards.) He never missed one of Dave's ball games from Little League through high school or a home game during Dave's four years on the Vanderbilt basketball team. Bill enjoyed reading, attending church activities, watching the Titans and Commodores and spending time with his two children and three grandchildren. Bill had a gentle soul, congenial personality, and a great sense of humor. He will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be on Sunday, 2-4 p.m. and 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., preceding the funeral service at noon on Monday, October 21st at Phillips-Robinson Funeral Home, 2707 Gallatin Rd., Dr. Lynn Hill officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
