John was born on Bobst Mountain (Lewis Twp.), Lycoming Co., PA, the son of Christian Breining and Mary Ann Fisher.

John and Alice were the parents of five children:
1. Elsie Ray (Breining) Davis
2. Clayton Paul Breining
3. Edith Belle (Breining) Pennington
4. Ada Louise (Breining) Schweiker
5. Howard L. Breining

The following obituary appeared in the "Williamsport Sun" (Williamsport, PA) on Friday, February 13, 1920:

JOHN A BREINING DIES AT BALTIMORE:

John A. Breining of 1039 Rural Avenue went to Baltimore a short time ago for treatment at John [sic] Hopkins Hospital and died at that place last night.

He is survived by his wife, one son, Clayton of Mill Hall. Three daughters, Mrs. C.H. Davis of Perryville; Mrs. W.L. Pennington, and Mrs. L.W. Schweiker of this city. One sister, Mrs. Mary E. Rader of this city and three brothers, W.H. Breining, of this city, J.G. [sic] of Indianapolis, and E.T. [sic] of Waynesboro. Funeral announced later.

The following announcement appeared in the "Williamsport Sun" (Williamsport, PA) on Saturday, February 14, 1920:

Funeral for John A Breining will be held Monday 10 am at 1039 Rural Avenue, his residence.
