Martha Skrhak Jessen died on Friday, September 23, 2005, at her home in Taylor. She was the daughter of Frank and Otillie (Zgabaj) Skrhak of Granger. Martha was employed by Joe Koen and Son Jewelers for over 55 years, working for three generations of the Koen Family. Her work ethic and loyalty were rivaled by none.

Martha loved square and ball room dancing and George Strait. She had a passion for growing things and working in her yard. Martha could be spotted out and about mowing, weeding, pruning, planting or transplanting - before sunrise.

She was considered family to the Koens, and remained very close to her co-workers, customers, and employer to the end of her life. She cared deeply for people and tried to help anyone who needed her. She counseled, consoled, and entertained; treating guests to their favorite dishes. She was also sought out for her expertise in estate, silver and antique appraisals.

Living in Georgetown for over 20 years, she was a member of St. Helen's Catholic Church, and the KJZT. In 2004 after moving to Taylor, she joined St. Mary's, and the St. Anne's Altar Society too. Martha was preceded in death by her parents, sister Frances Teichelman, a niece Debbie Lindgren and great nephew Lance Teichelman.

She is survived by her sister Evelyn Werchan of Georgetown, nephews Howard Teichelman, Jr. and wife Maggie of Taylor, Dennis Werchan and wife Nancy of Georgetown, niece La Verne and husband Tom Morgan of Midland. Also great nephews and nieces: Trey Teichelman, Jessica West, Meredith Morgan, Brandon Werchan, Bryan Werchan, Brent Morgan, Tracie Lindgren, and Kristi Lindgren and five great great nieces and nephews; a very special friend, Bill Koen, who she loved as a son; and many friends.

Rosary and memorial service will be at Condra Funeral Home, Wednesday, October 5th, at 7:30 p.m., Taylor. Private burial of cremains in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Georgetown on Thursday October 6th. [Published in the Austin American-Statesman 10/2/2005.
