One of our oldest pioneers, Mrs. A. B. McDonald passed away Saturday night in her home in corning, shortly after saying to those about her, "I feel so much better and I want you all to go and take your rest." It would seem that she still wanted to be a sturdy pioneer and meet her last battle alone. It was a shock indeed to the community to learn that the lips were forever sealed which had so loved to tell of Adams County history and recount the changes and growth in the land which she loved so much.
Mrs. McDonald had failed rapidly since her birthday, April 2nd and Mrs. Powell of Prescott had been staying with her. However she haas never given up to go to bed except for short periods of the day and was up and around the day of her death. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. and interment was made in Quincy Cemetery.
Ann Elizabeth Reynolds was born April 2, 1838 in Jones County, Pennsylvania and died April 14, 1928 aged 90 years, and 12 days. She was the daughter of James and Mary Reynolds, and at the age of 13, united with the Baptist Church at Blue Grass, Iowa.
She was married to Sylvester Mounts, in Scott County, Iowa in 1856. To this union three children were born, Hattie, who died in infancy, Melissa McDonald preceded her in data in 1910, and Peter Mounts who died in 1920. Mrs. Mounts came to Adams County, Iowa in 1871 and lived at Quincy when that was the county seat and united with the Methodist Church and continued a member of the denomination until her death. She was married to Absalon B. McDonald in 1875. Two children were born, Joe of Corning and Mrs. Guy Boyer of Creston. Mr. McDonald preceded her in death in 1910. She leaves four living step-daughters, Mrs. Mary Gurney of Pleasantville, Iowa, Mrs. Hattie R.Harms of Corning, Iowa, Mrs. Jessie Thompson of Des Moines, and Mrs. Carrie Champ of Omaha, Nebraska. Sone sister, Mrs. Mary Daughtery who is 94 years old of Guernsy, Iowa, still survives. A number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren live to mourn her death.
The sympathy of the community is extended to those who sorrow for this fine woman. She will be greatly missed by the relatives and the many friends whom she has drawn to her side during the many years she has lived in this community.
