Edith Marie Darby (ReRe) Evans, 87, died Aug. 28, 2012 in Prairie Village, KS. ReRe, as she was known to her family and friends, died as she lived -- peacefully, graciously and well-prepared to take the next step. ReRe's strong faith in God sustained and encouraged her, and heaven will be enriched and more organized with her entry. Her family, friends and community will feel the void that is left when a commanding and much-loved presence is gone. ReRe was a role model especially to her family as we try to emulate the values she held dear. She rarely forgot a name or face and never missed an opportunity to extend a welcome, a compliment or a kind word to everyone she met. She will be remembered as a loving mother, devoted grandmother, caring friend and enthusiastic sports fan -- especially a loyal Jayhawk. ReRe was the third daughter of the late United States Senator Harry Darby and Edith Darby. She graduated from Wyandotte High School and the University of Kansas, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority and earned a degree in Education. She married Ray Evans in 1949. Both husband, Ray, and daughter, Rita Evans Stark, and sisters Harriet Gibson and Marjorie Alford preceded her in death. Edith was a grade school teacher before becoming a homemaker and devoted mother of four children. She was a lifelong resident of the Kansas City area. ReRe was a member of the American Royal Board of Governors, Rockhurst Library Guild, Rockhurst University Board of Regents, Children's Relief Association of Children's Mercy Hospital, Colonial Dames of America, Westport Chapter of the American Revolution, University of Kansas Alumni Association, University of Kansas Chancellor's Club, Pi Beta Phi Alumnae Club and honorary member of the BOTAR Organization. ReRe was a past President of the Junior League of Kansas City, Kansas, and a past chairman of the Regional Nominating Committee for the Junior Leagues of America and volunteered for numerous civic organizations. She and her husband were avid sports fans of the Kansas Jayhawks, Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals. She is survived by her children: Julia Evans Fromm and husband Dave Fromm of Mission Hills, KS, Lisa Evans Tuchtan and husband Ken Tuchtan of Bethesda, MD, Ray Darby Evans and his wife Sarah Evans of Leawood, KS; son- in-law Benjamin Stark; nine grandchildren, Ryan Pfeiffer, Reagan Fromm, Graham Stark, Neal Stark, Darby Evans, Jack Evans, Mary Evans, Lindsay Owen, Tyler Tuchtan; three great grandchildren; one sister, Joan Edwards of Mission Hills, KS, and many much loved nephews and nieces. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Sept 4, at 2 p.m. at Cure of Ars Catholic Church, 9401 Mission Road, Leawood, KS 66206. Private family burial at Highland Park Cemetery, Kansas City KS. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the University of Kansas Endowment Association c/o The Williams Fund P.O. Box 414280, Kansas City, MO 64141 or to Cure of Ars Catholic Church. The family would like to express their sincerest appreciation to St. Luke's Hospice Care and to Trudy, Rebecca, Jean, Ruth and Peaches for all the love, care and support her caretakers provided the last several years.
