Ross, George E. 08/31/1932 ~ 10/08/2013 LA MESA -- George E. Ross passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Biloxi, MS, George was the youngest of 10 children born to Amos and Sophie Ross. A 1950 graduate of Biloxi High School, George continued his education at Mississippi Southern College until enlisting in the U.S. Navy. In 1953, George married Susan Smith, and together they relocated to San Diego. After completing his military service, George attended San Diego State University and began his career at the Atlas Static Test Site, Sycamore Canyon, a division of General Dynamics. George's career in aeronautics was solidified in 1968 when he joined Teledyne Ryan Aeronautical. Professionally, George's contributions in Test Engineering produced numerous advancements in aviation, culminating in the development of the unmanned GlobalHawk. Following the acquisition of Teledyne Ryan by Northrop Grumman, George continued in his role as Manager, Test Engineering until his retirement. George lost Susan, his loving wife of 58 years, in 2011. George is survived by daughters Victoria Ross and Elizabeth Rye (Vernon P. Rye III) of San Diego, grandson Randall Rye of Chicago, and numerous family members residing in Biloxi, MS. Services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 19th, at El Camino Memorial - La Mesa, 8390 Allison Avenue, La Mesa, CA. A private entombment at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery will follow at a later date.
