Mrs. JoNell du Pont Adcock, 85, passed away Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, after a brief illness.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mrs. Jennie Bruce; and two sisters, Miss Jimmay Bruce and Mrs. Judy (James) Jolly.
She is survived by her husband of 31 years, John R. Adcock, Attalla; daughter, Shirley du Pont, Southside; nephew, Dr. James (Dr. Joyce) Jolly, Tuscaloosa; niece, Miss Jennie Sue Jolly, Gadsden; daughter, Mrs. Helen (Earl) Breedwell, Attalla; granddaughter, Mrs. Brandi (Alan "Stick") Duncan Farley, Attalla; two wonderful great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Farley and JonThomas Farley; brother of Shirley du Pont, Mark du Pont, Attalla; and "chosen" daughters, Mrs. Judy (L.D.) Couch, Gadsden, and Ms. Leslie Moore, Auburn.
Mrs. Adcock attended Red Hill Methodist Church. She was a member of the El Señor senior citizens club of Gadsden and enjoyed good times spent with her friends in the club.
She worked for a number of years in downtown Attalla in the Elmore store. After leaving Elmore's, she spent several years traveling a five-state region selling advertising. She worked at Riverview Hospital when it was the Holy Name of Jesus Hospital. It was perhaps this work she found most rewarding.
Mrs. Adcock was an avid flower gardener and took great pleasure in showing friends and family her beautiful flowers. She delighted in spending time with her granddaughter and great-grandchildren. Telling stories of their accomplishments and funny little things they had done was one of her favorite things.
She was known for her sense of humor, her compassion for others and her love of family. She was a devoted wife, a loving and giving mother, a good friend and a beautiful lady.
A special thanks to Dr. Ralph Wesley for the more than 30 years of special care. Thank you to all the attending doctors and nurses who provided care these last two weeks.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the El Señor Club, Gary Adcock, Earl Breedwell, Alan Farley, L.D. Couch and Dr. James Jolly.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 this evening with the funeral service following at Morgan Funeral Chapel & Crematory. The Rev. Charles Marshall will officiate. Morgan Funeral Chapel & Crematory directing.
