F.F. Dailey

was born in Seneca County, New York in 1802. He has a distinct remembrance of many events which occurred during and in connection with the War of 1812. His uncle, William Marshall, was a Lieutenant in the American Army, and was wounded at the memorable Battle of Fort Mimms, and Mr. Dailey remembers his coming home on a furlough and careful nursing he received at the hands of the members of the family. Mr. Dailey's people moved to Pittsburgh in 1810 and west to Guernsey County, Ohio in 1813. His father worked a the hatter's trade in Pittsburgh and at Greensburg, Ohio, and Mr. Dailey learned the trade of him, but he worked but little at it, and turned his attention to farming as soon as he attained his majority. He cleared out a timber farm in Guernsey County, and afterwards he spent 12 years working in a saw mill. He moved to Henry County, Iowa in 1848. He entered 240 acres of land there which he still owns. He has 114 acres in northwest Rice adjoining the village of Marshalltown, and part of which is timber. He is now taking life as easy as one of his industrious habits and native energy can. Five of his sons went to the war, one of whom never returned. He voted for old Hickory Jackson twice, and has never missed an election since. A Republican.
